What does the Photo Team do?
The Pope Band Photo Team is a group of parent volunteers that take photos and video at all band events starting from summer band camp (mid-July) to marching band season to Fall & Spring concert seasons. Photos and videos are used to represent the Band in various places, including the Band website, social media, bulletin boards, printed materials, video presentations, the Pope High School (PHS) yearbook and more – but most of the photos appear in the Band Yearbook! Yes! The Pope Band has its own yearbook representing all Band activities throughout the year! It is created by the Pope Band Yearbook Team (also made up of parent volunteers). Orders are placed in the spring. The Band is also included on four pages of Pope High School Yearbook.
What kind of photos do you take?
We need a wide range of photos! Wide shots, group shots and face close-ups. Wide shots will mostly be of the competition on the field or of the Friday Night Spirit Band on the field as well as stage shots of concert bands. Group shots are best when faces can be recognized or if the picture tells a story such as cooling off with popsicles, a silly section pose, or having fun between performances!
Do I need a fancy camera?
Not at all - but we do find that DSLR or mirrorless cameras give the best results! You don’t need expensive gear or detachable lenses! We just need a team of motivated people who enjoy taking pictures and watching the Band perform!
